About me.
Like any good Chinese-American daughter, I promised my parents I'd be a doctor or lawyer. Only to become a diehard film nerd instead.
Since then, I've kept true to my word (to film, not to my parents — sorry, Mom and Dad!), graduating with a B.A. in Radio/Television/Film at Northwestern University and M.A. in Film Studies at King's College London. 2024 WIF Directing Fellow and Finalist for the 2024 STARZ #TakeTheLead Writers' Intensive, my feature film was selected for the 2023 Film London Production Finance Market (BFI London Film Festival). I was also finalist for the NETFLIX & NALIP Women of Color Short Film Incubator and The Black List & Women in Film Feature Lab with FIRECRACKER, now streaming on NETFLIX. It was an Audience Award-winning short and Official Selection at OutFest, Urbanworld, Asian American International Film Festival, San Diego Asian Film Festival and more.
I wrote, directed and produced the award-winning short film "The Test," published in academic film journals, wrote for the British Film Institute, lectured at the Beijing Film Academy, served as Vice Executive Director of the EU Film Festival in China, and fulfilled my wildest film nerd dreams by featuring in Criterion Collection's new release of Johnnie To's Throw Down. I also developed a Kids' Animation TV Series with ACE Entertainment (TO ALL THE BOYS I LOVED BEFORE), EP Stephen Daldry (THE CROWN) and Showrunner Joe Purdy (HEY ARNOLD!).
Originally from the suburbs of Atlanta and having lived in Chicago, Paris, London and Beijing, I'm now based in L.A. and previously worked in TV Development at MACRO. As a writer and filmmaker, I'm most interested in telling personal stories with humor and heart, especially of Asian and Asian-American women, to shed light on larger social issues and find glimpses of humanity within us.
